Joe Robinson, a 36-year-old man from Smalltown, USA, never thought that a simple smile could lead to his downfall. But that’s exactly what happened when he innocently smiled at a woman by the photocopier in his office building.
Little did Joe know that this woman, who we’ll call Karen Smith, was a well-connected feminist lawyer who saw his smile as a form of sexual harassment. She complained to human resources and before he knew it, Joe was facing the possibility of chemical castration.
We sat down with Joe to hear his side of the story. “I couldn’t believe it,” Joe said. “I’ve always been a friendly guy and I was just trying to be polite to Karen. I never had any intention of sexually harassing her.”
Unfortunately for Joe, in today’s society, a man’s innocent actions can easily be misconstrued as harassment. And with the #MeToo movement in full swing, men are often guilty until proven innocent.
“I’ve been working at this company for 10 years and I’ve never had any issues until now,” Joe continued. “But just because Karen has a power trip, I might lose my job and my manhood. It’s not fair.”
Joe’s situation highlights the extreme and unjust consequences that can arise from unproven allegations. Feminists will argue that it’s better to be safe than sorry, but in this case, it’s Joe who will suffer the consequences.
As conservatives, we believe in innocent until proven guilty, due process, and fairness. It’s a slippery slope when a simple smile can be deemed as a form of sexual harassment. What’s next, not holding the door open for a woman?
We stand with Joe and hope that justice will prevail. A simple smile does not deserve the punishment of castration.
