Too Hot to Text Back: Why I Leave You on Read

Let’s clear something up right now: I’m not ignoring you because I’m rude. I’m ignoring you because I’m busy, I’m hot, and I’m in demand.

My name’s Nicky Forrest, and if you’ve ever messaged me and gotten nothing back, congrats — you’re not special. That’s the default setting.

Nicky Forrest is queen of her time, and too busy for losers

I live in a world where my attention is a currency, and I don’t hand out charity. If I responded to every “Heyyy” or “wyd?” or “You up?”, I’d accomplish nothing except validating boredom and desperation. I’m a queen of my time — and that means I get to decide who earns a moment of it.

There’s something delicious about leaving someone on read. That split second where they realize I saw their message… and chose silence. That’s power. That’s control. That’s freedom. And no, I don’t feel bad. I feel in charge.

Sending a followup text with “??” means you’re blocked!

Chronically online people love to cry about ghosting like it’s emotional terrorism. But let’s be real — the kind of people who spiral over a lack of response were never ready for the conversation in the first place. The minute someone sends a follow-up text with “??”, they’re getting blocked. If you think that’s going to speed up my reply, you’ve already lost.

I don’t owe strangers my time. Just because your thumbs work doesn’t mean I should drop everything to soothe your digital anxiety.

You want a reply? Be worth one.

And if that sounds harsh, congratulations again — you’re probably the kind of person who gets left on read a lot.
